Keinyo White is a contemporary artist and children’s book illustrator best known for his unique visual style and take on painting.
An extremely versatile artist, his work covers a variety of subject matter. Displacement and migration figure prominently in his work as he moves between worlds: from figurative to abstract and conceptual, from the traditional artistic markers of portraiture, erotica and the female form to social commentary, life through an African-American lens, and personal familial stories and narratives.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
While he has developed his mastery across a variety of mediums including watercolor, collage, pen and ink, and oil painting, it is his watercolor work that he has become most known for and set him apart. Self-taught, he has developed a wholly unique style of working with the medium to create works of sharp draftsmanship, elegant lines, and vibrant color that are suffused with light.
His original works, limited prints and commissioned pieces have been sought after by collectors, galleries and public institutions both domestic and international. He has been the recipient of numerous awards as well as the subject of diverse publications, over a thirty year career.
A native born son of Washington D.C. and graduate of the prestigious European Honors Program at the Rhode Island School of Design, he lives and works between the United States, Vietnam and Aotearoa, New Zealand.
